A Double Standard?

When Abram left for Egypt, he was faced with uncertainties and doubts. Would the Egyptians covet his wife? Would they murder him? Though he had demonstrated his faith in God's promises a few verses earlier (Genesis 12:1), his reliance on that same God seemed to vanish at the first hints of trouble. He quickly put together a contingency plan (Genesis 12:13) and went ahead into Egypt, only to be rebuked at the end of the chapter.

We are much like Abram. We give our lives to Christ and follow where He leads us. But at the first sign of trouble, we begin to make back-up plans "just in case." Where is our faith? What kind of God do we think we serve, that we are so easily convinced that He cannot help us?

Indeed, the same God that delivered His people from slavery, the disciples from the raging storm, and ourselves from eternal damnation is the same God who will help us in this walk of life.
