Momentary Joys

Some nights I like to walk along
the roads and city streets
and pass along the sidewalks -
the tar-paved road to meet.
And in these lonely walks sometimes
I pass a flow'r or two
hastily dug and placed between
the dismal cracks they've grew.
The scent delights the passerby
I slow my walk to smell.
but cars come quickly rushing by:
disperse the fragrant spell.
And so returns my sidewalk
with all its stained expanse.
The flow'rs enticed the traveler
but left without a glance.
