Coming with Confidence

The fear of God is often misconstrued as a demand for ignorance. One must approach the Heavenly Creator as a sort of mystical being that cannot and does not desire to be understood. Foolish one! Do you think to approach God by your own merits? If that were so, would you not be instantly consumed? Know, rather, that you approach by the infinite saving grace of Christ. Before the Lord God, you stand cleansed white as snow. Before Him, you are righteous; not by your own self, but by the self of Jesus Christ who shed His blood for you on the cross.

Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:7-11)

Obey Him, then, and approach confidently! Or do you suppose to lessen the power of Christ? Do you not suppose that this feigned deference is mere mockery of Christ's work? It is enough for you - take it and know that because of it, you are considered worthy to come and plead openly with the God that rules the universe.

We do not come out of ignorance, for we know by faith that these words are true. Do you suppose that the Lord spoke without purpose when He commanded, "Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Matthew 11:20-24)

How then, are we able to come with faith so strong. Indeed we know that without this faith, naught is possible. Then, as the father humbly cried out we also say, "Help us in our unbelief!" For "Jesus [had] said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." (Mark 9:23-24)

Are you not ashamed to call yourself 'Christian' and then fear to approach the very One who saved you and called you 'Brother' and named you 'Child'? Does He speak emptily when He says, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened?" For He confirms, "What man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:7-11)
