Strategy

John Wooden used to coach his teams with the motto, "Know thyself." Players were never taught how opponents might play, but how they should play. Players were expected to know every detail about Coach Wooden's game plan. "He had the best players and he had a great system, so combined with his team always being well-prepared, what the other team did wasn’t as important," says one coach of Wooden. Indeed, players entered the game supremely confident in one person: their coach. Nothing else mattered.

In our Christian life, we are often bogged down as we "scout" the enemy. What's going to come next? How should we respond if this happens? Or how will we ever hold up against such and such when that happens? And yet we are constantly assured time and time again that God is control. After all, He is our Coach: He has the best strategy, He has the best system, and He's working on making each of His players the best--completely fit and ready for the work ahead of them.
