From Charles Spurgeon:
"'Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? (Luke 24:38)'
"Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?" (Isa. 40:27). The Lord cares for all things, and the humblest creatures share in His universal providence; but His particular providence is over His saints. "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him" (Ps. 34:7). "Precious shall their blood be in his sight" (Ps. 34:7)...."We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to his purpose" (Rom. 8:28). Let this fact encourage and comfort you: while He is the "Saviour of all men" (1 Tim. 4:10), He is the Savior "specially of those that believe" (v. 10).
You are His psecial care, His regal treasure that He guards as the "apple of his eye" (Deut. 32:10), His vineyard over which He watches day and night. "The very hairs of your head are all numbered" (Matt. 10:30). Let the thought of His special love for you be a spiritual painkiller, a dear soother of your troubles. "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Heb. 13:5)....
We lose much comfort by our habit of reading His promises as if they were only for the church as a whole, instead of applying them directly to ourselves. Believer, grasp the divine Word with a personal, appropriating faith. Hear Jesus say to you, "I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not" (Luke 22:32). See Him walking on the waters of your trouble, for He is there, and He is saying, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid" (Matt. 14:27). Oh, those sweet words of Christ! May the Holy Spirit enable you to think of them as words spoken to you. Forget others for a while, and accept the voice of Jesus as addressed to you. Say, "Jesus whispers comfort. I cannot refuse it. I will sit 'under his shadow with great delight' (Song. 2:3).'"
