Modesty is a lie. It's the kind of thing you do when someone compliments you and you graciously disagree. It's what you do when you know that you did well--and are proud of the fact that you did well--and still pretend like nothing happened. It's the equivalent of lying.
Humility is quite another matter. Humility in the Bible is a bit different than humility as we find it in the Dictionary. Webster defines humility as, "having a low estimate of one's own importance." Humility is becoming a servant of sorts. It's not a matter of hiding talents or feigning uselessness. Rather, it's taking those talents and using them for the sole purpose of others. That is what Christ did--He didn't tell people He wasn't the Messiah. He didn't modestly reject claims of His deity or His power. Rather, He 'humbled' Himself.
